School News from January 2007

"Who wants to be a Thousandaire"
Our major fundraising event this year will be “Who wants to be a Thousandaire” on Thursday 10th May in White’s Hotel. It will be a great fun event and hopefully we will raise lots of money for our new classroom.

Physical Education

We have a very full programme of activities in P.E. this year. The pupils have just completed a programme in gymnastics and are embarking upon a dance programme. Soon weekly swimming classes will begin in Enniscorthy swimming pool. Rugby skills training is taking off as well… perhaps we have another up and coming Gordon D-Arcy in the making! The Table Tennis Club is thriving on Mondays and Thursdays after school and a third table has just been purchased. Everyone is practising hard for the upcoming tournaments.

Other Activities

We are looking forward to a visit by staff from the Armagh Planetarium in March. This will be a busy month as we are also going to the National Concert Hall for the Irish Times "Music in the Classroom". The West Midlands Theatre Group will be visiting the school as well.

MS Readathon

Way back in November we took part in the MS Readathon and raised 𔚻,688. These endeavours have put us in the top three schools in Ireland for the Primary Section for amounts raised and books read in relation to the number of pupils participating. Well done children!

Bishop’s Medal Exam

Three children are preparing for the Bishop’s Medal Exam: Elizabeth Kavanagh, Georgina Corbett and Ronan Finn. We wish them every success.

Wexford Credit Union Quiz

Four teams from the school took part in this event on 29th January. In the Senior Quiz, our team came second out of 50 teams. Well done Lisa Somers, Grainne Rafferty, Lauren Devereux and Ronan Finn. In the Junior Quiz we came third, well done to Christopher Doyle, Triona Harvey, Erin Wilson and Lynsey Tanner.
