History

The name Taghmon means the House of Munn. St. Munn or also known St. Fintan founded a monastery in Taghmon in 634. A church and Chancel were in repair in 1615 however the present standing church of St. Munn was built in 1818. In the churchyard lie the remains of "St. Munn's Cross". Taghmon was a union of parishes combining at times, four parishes. It was amalgamated with Horetown Union in 1922 and later in 1963 Bannow and Duncormick parishes were added. In 1995 Horetown and Taghmon Unions were once again separated from Bannow and Duncormick and were almagamated with Wexford Union.
